    Only for historical reasons and because of its close relation of the Hough transform to the (forward) Radon transformation (equation 1), band localization by using the (forward) Radon transform (equation 1) is discussed in more detail in the following. The concept of the Hough transform in EBSD publications is at best confusing the newcomer whereby butterfly peaks in Hough space are constructed by superimposing sinusoidal curves for each pixel of pattern space. In practical applications preference should be given to the backward Radon transform by the sheer fact that it is intuitively accessible.
